The IEEE Brain Workshop on AI for Neurotechnology was held on June 30, 2024, at the Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center in Japan. This event was part of the World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI 2024) and was conducted in association with the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN). The workshop focused on the application of artificial intelligence to neurotechnology, aiming to bridge the gap between neuroscience and AI.
Keynote and invited speakers included notable experts such as:
- Prof. Mitsuo Kawato from the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International, Japan.
- Dongrui Wu from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China.
- Alexandre Gramfort from Meta Reality Labs, Paris, France.
- Gerwin Schalk from Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
- CT Lin from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia.
- TP Jung from the University of California, San Diego, USA.
The workshop was organized by Damien Coyle (University of Ulster), Cuntai Guan (Nanyang Technological University), and Nik Kasabov (Auckland University of Technology). It featured discussions on recent advances in neurotechnology, brain-computer interfaces, and machine learning applications in neuroscience. The event provided an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and explore future directions in this interdisciplinary field.
The IEEE Brain Workshop had approximately 100 visitors attending throughout the day. Feedback from attendees highlighted the imminence of the speakers and the quality of talks was outstanding (“6 keynotes”). A lively panel discussion was held covering topics around the future of AI in Neurotech. Invited speakers along with chair have discussed writing a opinion paper on AI for Neurotech.
All panel members/speakers have agreed to consider submitting papers to the IEEE Brain supported special issue : IEEE SPM Special Issue on Accelerating Brain Discovery Through Data Science and Neurotechnology.
